Walworth/Jefferson County Chapter

WALWORTH & JEFFERSON COUNTIES

The southern edge of the Kettle Moraine ends near Richmond in Walworth County, where the farthest extent of the Wisconsin Glaciation’s Green Bay and Lake Michigan Lobes divided to extend west and south, respectively.

The Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest, which does not reach the southern point of the Kettle Moraine, features many forests, oak openings, prairies, lakes, eskers and kettles. One highlight is the trip to the top of Bald Bluff, which showcases a thriving prairie and panoramic views to the west.

Heading west from the Kettle Moraine, the Ice Age Trail crosses an outwash plain of farms, wetlands and a few forested hills. The Trail crosses this landscape mostly through public hunting areas.
